Criterion 2: Energy and Climate Change

Regarding the implementation of smart buildings, the College of Science has adopted the Smart Card system, which allows for controlled operation of lighting and power in classrooms and laboratories. This contributes to improved energy management efficiency and reduced electrical consumption.
With respect to renewable energy sources, the college has shown broad interest in solar energy by beginning to use solar panels to operate certain electrical devices, promoting the transition toward clean energy and reducing emissions from traditional energy sources.
As part of the greenhouse gas reduction program aimed at mitigating global warming and environmental pollution, the College of Science has worked to minimize emissions by encouraging a carpooling system among staff and students to reduce the use of private cars. The college also promotes the use of electric and hybrid vehicles, aligning with sustainability goals and efforts to lower the carbon footprint.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the college launched several innovative and humanitarian initiatives, including the preparation of transport media for medical laboratories, the production of sanitizers and protective masks, and the design of self-opening doors to reduce direct contact and enhance safety.
Concerning the university’s educational, research, and scientific programs on climate change, the College of Science has organized numerous workshops, seminars, and research studies addressing sustainable energy, global warming, environmental pollution, and climate change, reflecting the college’s active role in supporting sustainability and environmental awareness across the university.
