A brief overview of the Environment Department
The Department of Environment was established at the College of Science/University of Al-Qadisiyah in the year 2008-2009. The first class graduated in 2012-2013. The department contains a number of teaching staff who hold doctoral and master’s degrees in multiple specializations related to environmental science. The department awards a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences after completing the four academic years. The department aspires to open a master’s degree in environmental sciences in the department. The department contains a number of laboratories equipped with the latest equipment and international facilities, the most important of which are:
-Environment and pollution laboratory
Microbiology laboratory
-Scientific research laboratory
Department vision:
Spreading the environmental culture necessary to create a sound environmental reality. A comprehensive study of environmental sciences and their applications and uses in society from a theoretical and practical perspective. Focusing and paying attention to environmental balance and increasing awareness, which requires the contribution of all parties, each according to their position and responsibility, as there are many environmental problems in Iraq in general and in Najaf in particular. Therefore, attention and support must be given to projects that are concerned with treating and avoiding environmental pollution.

Objectives of the Environment Department
- Comprehensively studying environmental sciences and their applications and uses in society from a theoretical, scientific and applied perspective.
- Preparing scientific cadres at the primary and higher levels capable of working in the environmental, health, agricultural and industrial fields.
- Providing students with scientific techniques in using devices and equipment that can be used in their applied studies.
- Providing state institutions, the Ministry of Environment, and environmental research units and centers with primary and senior specialized cadres to work in this field.
- Research and study everything new in environmental sciences and keep up with scientific developments in this field and include them within the prescribed school curricula.
